Competition
The Netherlands organizes the European Championships again in de Bonte Wever, using the venue for the third time.
The Oceanic Championships are organized in Swakopmund, Namibia. This event is the last Oceanic Championship as member countries outside Europe consider the travel distances for the Oceanics too long.
IOC Recognition
After providing the IOC with the up-to-date membership list as well as the financial results, IOC President Samaranch informed President Koren on 15 June the that TWIF had been granted provisional recognition during the IOC Session in Seoul, Korea. Provisional recognition is for two years, after that it has to be confirmed by the IOC Session to make it a full recognition.

WorldSportCom As a follow-up to the agreements signed by President Koren in 1997, WorldSportCom pays USD 120.000 for the two years of web casting rights.
ASICS TWIF concludes a Sponsorship Agreement with ASICS (annual USD 8.500)
