The year 2013 was a busy year as two major events took place; the 9th World Games in Cali, Colombia and the European Championships in Assen Netherlands. It was the first time that the World Games was organized in a South American country. The national teams of Colombia were present at the event; they were not yet qualified enough to participate in the event they used the opportunity to train with the top teams present in Cali.

The European Championships in Assen, Netherlands were again staged in de Smelt, which gradually take over the position of the famous Bonte Wever in Slagharen. Together with the European Championships also the World Junior Championship were staged in Assen.
