Competitions
With the co-operation of the Central Council for Physical Recreation Mr. Hutton was able to stage a European Championships at Crystal Palace, London on 21 August 1965. He invited Sweden, Netherlands, Switzerland, Northern Ireland, Denmark, Italy, Rep. of Ireland and England to compete. Of these eight countries Denmark, Italy and Eire declined stating that they were not sufficiently developed in the sport of Tug of War at this stage to take part in a European Championships. The European Championships in London were staged at 720 Kilos weight class. In connection with these championships Mr. Hutton arranged an Open Clubs Competition held on the morning of the 21st August where 40 Clubs attended. This ensured that the stands were full to cheer on the efforts of the National Teams during the European Championships.
