In 1962, a special invitation was sent from the Swedish Association for a London Police team to take part in the 50th Anniversary of the Olympic Games. In the 1912 Olympic Games which were held in the Stockholm, the Stockholm Police team representing Sweden had defeated Great Britain, represented by the City of London Police, in the final of the Tug of War. Enquiries in both countries revealed that Police teams neither from Stockholm nor from the City of London were in a position to take up this challenge in 1962.
As a result the Kensington Metropolitan Police were selected to represent the London Police and pulled against the Gothenburg Police in the Olympic Stadium in Stockholm on this historic and memorable occasion. The visit was extended so that the teams could take part in other competitions and visit the Vasterose Police during the celebrations.
